PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia Phillies got some major production out of the middle of their order on the way to an easy win. Chase Utley hit a three-run homer, and Ben Revere had four hits, including a triple, to lead the Phillies to a 10-3 victory over the Houston Astros on Wednesday night. Ryan Howard had two hits and two RBIs with a double for Philadelphia, which had scored just two runs in 35 2-3 innings entering Wednesday. The Phillies topped the Astros 2-1 in 15 innings on Tuesday night. Utley, Howard and Marlon Byrd -- the Phillies Nos. 3-5 hitters -- had five hits and six RBIs. "It makes a big difference all the way around," Philadelphia manager Ryne Sandberg said. "That becomes contagious." David Buchanan (6-5) was called up again to replace Cliff Lee, who is on the disabled list for a second time because of a left elbow strain sustained last Thursday. Buchanan, whose strategy was to get ahead of hitters, gave up three runs and nine hits in 6 1-3 innings with five strikeouts and no walks. He filled in for Lee during the left-handers previous two-month stint on the DL, but made his last three starts in the minor leagues. "Steady, gave us a chance to win," Sandberg said. "He doesnt get rattled out there. He hangs in there." Brad Peacock (3-8) struggled in his first big-league start since being sent to the minors to work on his fastball command. He allowed eight runs and seven hits in five innings, and lost his third straight start. The right-hander had an 18.00 ERA in his previous two starts with the Astros, which landed him in Triple-A Oklahoma City. The Phillies jumped on Peacock in the first inning for five runs and four hits, highlighted by Howards two-run double. Buchanan drove in the final run of the frame with his first major-league hit in his 18th at-bat. "I couldnt get into a groove," Peacock said. "I was probably working a little too quick. I was a little amped up." Utleys homer in the fourth gave Philadelphia an 8-2 lead. "It was a bad pitch to Utley, but after that I felt great," Peacock said. "But the numbers are the numbers." Houston scored in the first inning on Jon Singletons RBI groundout, in the fourth on Jake Marisnicks sacrifice fly, and in the seventh on Jose Altuves groundout. Altuve had two hits with an RBI, giving him his major league-leading 48th multi-hit game. UP NEXT Astros right-hander Colin McHugh (4-9, 3.32) faces Phillies right-hander Roberto Hernandez (6-8, 3.87) as the teams wrap up their three-game set on Thursday night. Hernandez will be trying for his third straight win after allowing just two earned runs in 15 innings over his last two starts. McHugh, who will be making his first career start against the Phillies, entered Wednesday ranked fifth in the AL in opponents batting average (.203) and second in strikeouts per nine innings (10.14). TRAINERS ROOM Phillies: Lees season appears to be over. Although no announcement on his status has been made, Lees locker in the clubhouse has been cleaned out. Lee was making his second start last Thursday after a two-month stint on the DL when he was hurt again. Astros: Rookie outfielder George Springer, on the DL since July 20 with a strained quad, played in his third rehab game with Quad Cities on Wednesday night. Springer doubled but was lifted after feeling a pull, Houston manager Bo Porter said. The AL Rookie of the Month in May is batting .231 with 20 homers and 51 RBIs in 78 games with Houston. Before Wednesdays game, Springer was on pace for a possible return on Thursday although Fridays home game against Texas is more likely. OUT FROM HIS KNEES Second-base umpire Jeff Nelson made an out call from his knees in the first inning after falling while trying to get in position when Buchanan slid into second. Sandberg challenged Nelsons decision but the call stood after a 3-minute, 12-second replay delay. Buchanan thought he was safe but said, "I think for now Im going to stay on first base." DANCING WITH THE PHANATIC Third-base umpire Laz Diaz showed off his dancing skills during a skit with the Phillie Phanatic following the fifth inning. Dressed in a red and black costume with Spanish music blaring, the Phanatic danced Salsa style in front of Diaz. Diaz at first made no expression and twice turned away from the Philadelphia mascot before getting in on the dance toward the end of what seemed to be an unscripted act. FOLTYNEWICZ WORKS OUT OF JAM Astros reliever Mike Foltynewicz worked out of a jam in the seventh inning in his second major league appearance. The right-hander allowed three straight hits to start the frame, capped by Byrds RBI single, before getting Grady Sizemore to ground into a double play and Wil Nieves to strike out swinging. It was the first career run allowed for Foltynewicz, who pitched 2-3 scoreless innings in his big-league debut on Saturday. Foltynewicz came back out for the eighth and gave up another run when Revere tripled and scored on a wild pitch. BULLPEN ON A ROLL Philadelphia relievers Jake Diekman, Justin De Fratus and Cesar Jimenez combined to allow one hit in 2 2-3 scoreless innings in a strong performance from the Phillies bullpen for the second straight night. In Tuesdays win, the Philadelphia relievers allowed one hit in eight scoreless innings and struck out 14. The Niners hope to rebound from a rough Thanksgiving night loss this Sunday as they visit the Oakland Raiders and the Coliseum. San Francisco had a three-game winning streak halted as it was routed by the Seattle Seahawks 19-3 at home on Nov. 27. Quarterback Colin Kaepernick struggled to just 16-of-29 passing for 121 yards while getting picked off twice by Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman. Seattle outgained San Francisco 379-164 and running back Carlos Hyde led all Niner receivers with 38 yards on three catches. In all areas, they played better team football, said 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh. We have to come back and win them all. The 49ers dropped to 7-5 on the season, putting them a game back of the Seahawks for second place in the NFC West and two back of the front-running Arizona Cardinals. San Francisco can still keep itself in the hunt, though, as it visits Seattle on Dec. 14 and then closes the regular season at home versus Arizona among its four remaining games. The Niners hope to head to Seattle for a rematch off a winning note as they visit the 1-11 Raiders. The all-time series is tied at 6-6, but San Francisco has won three straight and four of the past five meetings. San Francisco will visit Oakland for the first time since a 23-20 overtime victory in 2002 and this marks the fifth Battle of the Bay since the Raiders returned to Oakland in 1995. The Raiders, though, havent beaten the Niners as the home team since 1991 while in Los Angeles. Oakland snapped a 16-game losing streak dating back to last season with a 24-20 home victory over Kansas City on Nov. 20, but any momentum from that Thursday victory was crushed last weekend in a 52-0 thumping at the hands of the hosting St. Louis Rams on Sunday. The Raiders allowed 21 points in the first quarter and then saw Rams running back Tre Mason rip off an 89-yard touchdown run early in the second. Meanwhile, Oakland managed just 244 yards of offense for the game. We didnt start fast. We knew this was a team that started fast, one of the better teams in the league that way, and we didnt start fast on either side of the football today, said Raiders interim head coach Tony Sparano. Rookie Derek Carr finished 24-of-39 passing for 173 yards and threw interceptions on consecutive drives in the second quarter. Wide receiver James Jones and running back Marcel Reece both caught six passes. WHAT TO WATCH FOR Points have been hard to come by for the Niners at times this season as they rank tied for 25th in the NFL with 19.3 per game. However, the Raiders are tied for 30th with 28.1 points allowed per game and are yielding 359.4 yards per game. San Francisco hopes to get Kaepernick on track as he posted just a 36.7 passer rating versus the Seahawks and had a run of 18 straight games with a touchdown pass halted. Were going to attack it. Were going to get it right, Harbaugh said of getting Kaepernick adjusted. There will be improvements that are made and I have great confidence that we can do that. Kaepernick has won six of his eight career starts versus the AFC with 12 total touchdowns in that span. Eight of those have come through the air with another four on the grround.dddddddddddd San Franciscos quarterback will be trying to avoid a familiar face in Raiders cornerback Tarell Brown, who was a fifth-round pick by the Niners in 2007. He became a full-time starter in 2011 and recorded 11 interceptions with San Francisco before signing with the Raiders this season. Hes doing a very good job at diagnosing routes, Harbaugh said of Brown. Hes very good at having the instincts to play the route. Hell sit on routes. He gets involved with the breakups and hes looking to be in position to get interceptions. A lot of respect for his game. Oakland actually added two former 49er defensive backs this offseason, signing Carlos Rogers as well, but he is out with a knee injury. Brown will try to stop San Francisco receivers Anquan Boldin and Michael Crabtree. Both have recorded four touchdown catches this season, while Boldin leads the club with 68 receptions and 843 yards. I look forward to it. Its going to be exciting, noted Brown. Theyll be hyped up to play against me. Ill be hyped up to play against them, and its always great competition when you go against guys youre familiar with. Crabtree, though, was limited in practice on Wednesday after suffering injuries to his abdomen and knee versus Seattle. The Niners defense slipped to fourth in the NFL with 306.7 yards allowed per game after struggling a bit versus the Seahawks, but the 49ers are just one of five teams to have at least three players with five or more sacks. Linebackers Ahamd Brooks and Aaron Lynch, along with defensive tackle Justin Smith, have all hit the mark, with Lynch picking up a sack in three straight. San Franciscos linebackers are producing despite not having NaVarro Bowman all season due to injury and losing Patrick Willis to a toe injury on Nov. 11 that ended his campaign. Linebacker Chris Borland has stepped in, recording 87 tackles, a sack and two interceptions in 12 games this season with six starts. Borland, who has at least 13 tackles in four of his past five games, was named the NFLs Defensive Rookie of the Month for November. The unit will try to rattle Carr, who leads all NFL rookies with 2,422 passing yards and 14 touchdowns. Despite Oaklands struggles this season, Sparano doesnt plan on sitting Carr and isnt too concerned with performance versus the Rams. I didnt feel like he looked rattled, but I thought that as the game went on and youre in one of those kind of games where you have to throw the football, handing the football off at that point isnt a huge option, said the coach. Carr could be helped if running back Latavius Murray can play this weekend. He ran for a career-high 112 yards in the win over the Chiefs, but suffered a concussion in the victory and did not play against the Rams. OVERALL ANALYSIS The good news for the Niners is that the extra time to stew about the loss to the Seahawks should help them avoid looking past the Raiders. They cant afford to lose a game like this and should be amped up to get on track. Also, since 2011, the 49ers are 3-0 following a game on Thursday Night Football and have outscored their opponents 84-6 in those three contests. That doesnt bode well for an Oakland team playing out the string, even if local bragging rights are on the line. Sports Network predicted outcome: 49ers 20, Raiders 9 ' ' '
